Pineapple

While many associate the pineapple with Hawaii, the fruit is actually native to southern Brazil and Paraguay. Native Americans spread it throughout South and Central America and the West Indies. Columbus discovered the pineapple in Guadeloupe, naming it “The Pine of the Indies” for its pinecone-like appearance. Introduced to Spain and Europe, it became a symbol of hospitality due to its scarcity and desirability.
